Life Rolls On completes $10,000 grant to UCSD
Center for Neural Studies receives money for research
Josh Billauer, President of LRO and a UCSD alumnus, presented the check to Dr. Mark H. Tuszynski, who heads the UCSD Translational Spinal Cord Regeneration Research Program. According to Dr. Tuszynski, the funds will be used to support research in acute and chronic spinal cord injury.
Dr. Tuszynski expressed gratitude to LRO for its continued support. “Private donations are critical as we attempt to move forward in reducing these research efforts to a practical therapy of potential applicability to humans,” he explained. “While we receive good amounts of federal funding for our research, private donations are a key source of support for our chronic injury programs.”
Tuszynski believes that there has been significant advancement in the body of scientific knowledge over the last 15 years that presents, for the first time, the possibility of developing spinal cord regeneration strategies that are candidates for translation to clinical trials.

President's Budget Threatens Hope
Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center (PRC) in Jeopardy
On February 6th, President Bush released his proposed federal budget for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2007 to Congress. The President's budget proposes deep cuts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for health promotion and quality of life programs. These proposed cuts include a proposal to eliminate funding for CDC paralysis programs, which fund the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center (PRC) , the NeuroRecovery Network, and Quality of Life Health Promotion Grants to non-profit organizations around the country (of which Life Rolls On has been a recipient).
Tell your Members of Congress when the Budget Resolution is considered in the House and Senate, oppose the President's proposed cuts and stand with you, their constituent, in support of efforts to increase funding for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center, including its Quality of Life grants and the NeuroRecovery Network, paralysis programs and medical research. Request that they vote to increase funding for paralysis programs and research by supporting every effort to increase funding for Function 550 over last year's level.
> Find your Member of Congress
-
Once connected to the office, ask to speak with the legislative assistant that handles health care or budget issues.
-
Share with them your feelings on the information above and request their boss's vote on the FY 2007 budget resolution.
-
Ask for a commitment from them to support every effort and amendment to increase funding for Function 550 and paralysis research and programs.
-
Make it clear that there is no justification for voting against their constituents and approximately 4 million Americans living with paralysis.
Search the Internet, Raise $$ for LRO
Goodsearch.com supports non-profits
If you ever browse the internet (we all do, right?), you can find what you are looking for and help Life Rolls On fulfill our programs at the same time.
The average person does five web searches per day* and if 10,000 people did searches on behalf of Life Rolls On every day, that would add up to $500 per day or $182,500 per year, which would go towards spinal cord injury related programs offered by Life Rolls On. Here is how it works:
- Go to www.goodsearch.com (make it your homepage)
- Type "Life Rolls On" in the I'm Supporting box
- Click Verify
- Search
It is powered by Yahoo, so for every search you complete, you will raise $0.01 for Life Rolls On. Please spread the word, it is just too easy not to. * Unresearched guess
