My LRO Story - Christiaan Bailey
Age: 28
Hometown: Santa Cruz, CA
Sport: Surfing, Chairskating

Christiaan Bailey was injured in 2006 at his local favorite local skate park, but that has not stopped him from pursuing his athletic dreams. After working hard to recover, he immediately got back to doing what he loves, surfing every morning and skating every afternoon, albeit chairskating now. Christiaan learned of LRO and its programs through his surfer buddies and well, as they say…the rest was history!
As an ambassador for LRO, Christiaan continues to use his courage and enthusiasm to inspire others with physical disabilities. “When people first sustain an SCI, they feel as if their dreams are gone. LRO’s programs, like They Will Surf Again, show people that they can accomplish more than they think,” explains Bailey. “LRO instills in people the confidence, drive and determination to pursue their dreams despite the challenges life throws at them.”
Christiaan has definitely pursued his dreams, surfing in exhibitions at the O’Neill Coldwater Classic, NSSA National Championships, WSA National Championships, The REEF Panama Classic and the US Open of Surfing.
