You Can Make a Difference, Here's How...

"Being involved with LRO has truly been a life-altering process for myself. The opportunity to touch young people that have been dealt a life changing moment that makes them question their reason to exist, is one that is both inspirational and rewarding.  If you desire to make a difference in peoples lives then this is a wonderful place to participate...no corporate politics, no red tape...just help make people smile and inspire others."  - Dick Baker, Founding LRO Board of Director

Volunteers are vital to the mission of Life Rolls On: providing hope and advocacy on behalf of young people whose lives have been affected by spinal cord injury. Although LRO is based in California, volunteers from around the world make a difference in what we are able to do.

Volunteer for LRO in one or several different ways. Whether assisting with a TWSA event in your area, spreading the work about spinal cord injury and LRO, or raising valuable financial support - we need your help!

Here are different ways to volunteer your time, talents, and/or treasures: (click for details)

Get involved with LRO adventure/outreach programs

Help with events – LRO has a number of adventure and outreach programs that would not be possible without the support of many hands!

  • They Will Surf Again (TWSA) – This adaptive surfing program for people with spinal cord injuries is a life changing experience for everyone.* Most TWSA events have been held in Southern California, but we have already branched out to North Carolina, New Jersey, Virginia and Florida. Become a TWSA event volunteer and help out on- or off-site, before or during a event. Or, let us know if you would like to organize one at a new location.**
    • ** Volunteer organized events and fundraisers on behalf of LRO, need pre-approval from Life Rolls On before they can be advertised or sanctioned. All non-approved events put the volunteer and LRO at risk. Please be smart.
  • Educational Booths - You can also get your hands dirty volunteering in LRO informational booths at key events, such as the US Open of Surfing held in Huntington Beach in late July. LRO has a presence at a number of other events; it takes the commitment from volunteers like you to make this happen.

Schedule a speaker - Life Rolls On Founder Jesse Billauer is on a nationwide speaking tour, spreading the message of "Life Rolls On" and overcoming adversity. How can you help? Suggest to the higher powers that you would like Jesse to present to your school or company. In 2009, Jesse spoke to over 50,000 people in more than a dozen states. Ready to start the process?

LRO Has Made a Difference – Know someone with a spinal cord injury whose life has been positively impacted by the work of Life Rolls On? The more stories we can share about those who have been influenced by LRO, the better! Let us know if you have a nomination.

Spread the LRO Buzz

Tell your friends – No matter where you are in the world, this is the easiest way to help. Helping can be as easy as telling all your friends about LRO, promoting the LRO eNewsletter, joining the on social networking sites like LRO MySpace Group (or others at the bottom of this page), or recruiting a new LRO volunteer.

Become a member - Joining the tight-knit MyLRO members-only community is a great way to get involved and will help you spread the LRO Buzz. Memberships range from $20 to $1000. All members get an LRO T-Shirt, MyLRO Membership Sticker, LRO Pin, and LRO Tattoo (temporary of course!).

Be a face for LRO – There is power in numbers. Promote initiatives such as the Paralysis Awareness Stamp Petition, support Advocacy initiatives, or raise money and represent LRO in your own event as a member of TeamLRO. Have another idea? Let us know

Support LRO fundraising efforts

Assist with events – Signature LRO events provide amazing entertainment and yield crucial financial support. Volunteers help make these a success!

  • Night By The Ocean (NBTO) - This black-tie gala event in Hollywood, California, provides critical financial support for spinal cord injury research and the work of Life Rolls On. Past musical guests at NBTO include Jackson Browne, Switchfoot, Ziggy Marley, Jason Mraz, Minnie Driver, Matt Costa, Timmy Curran and others. Help us carry out this exciting event as a volunteer whether before or during the event, from near or from far.
  • Golf Tournaments - Now running bi-coastal, Malibu (California) and Cape May (New Jersey), LRO Golf Tournaments are the cornerstone of our fundraising efforts. With the help of event volunteers, these events are tons of fun for all involved and result in expanded awareness for the organization and funding for our programs.

Donate online – Life Rolls On relies heavily on the generosity of individual giving. Each and every donation has an impact on the future of this organization, the quality of programs we provide for those whose lives have been changed by spinal cord injuries, and the potential for breakthroughs in spinal cord injury research. By volunteering your financial support, you make a difference. Tell a friend about LRO, and encourage them to donate as well. Feel more comfortable donating offline? Use this form (PDF).

Buy stuff! – LRO is not just an organization. It is a culture. All kinds of people inspired by our message, or just our cool-looking stuff, buy LRO clothes and goods. Cuba Gooding, Jr. wore a Life Rolls On beanie in the movie “Dirty.” Morgan Spurlock wore his shirt in "Supersize Me." What will be your LRO fashion statement? Check out our store to decide.
