August 2005 - THE BIG ISSUE Volume 1, Issue 7

Welcome LRO Supporter,

Joyous July!

2005 on track to become a record year
For one week in July, thousands of individuals, dozens of companies, and an army of committed volunteers helped to raise over $200,000 for Life Rolls On.

Starting with the 2nd Annual Night by the Ocean on July 24 which brought in $145,000, guests awoke early the next morning to raise an additional $30,000 at the 7th Annual Golf Tournament. After just two days rest, the 5th Annual Expression Session week kicked off at the Honda US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach. By Sunday July 31st, nearly $15,000 was raised at the beach. This a result of Arrowhead Mountain Spring Water sales, SoBe beverage sales, spin-the-wheel proceeds, LRO clothing sales and general donations. Not to be forgotten, is the $15,000 contribution from the Warne Family Charitable Foundation.

$200,000 in one week! Thank you everyone who contributed to achieve this milestone. More information about each of the events can be found below.

Honda & Arrowhead Mountain Spring Water present a Night By the Ocean

Wow - What a night!
Life Rolls On's annual formal dinner gala and auction, the major fund raiser of the year, took place on July 24th in Santa Monica. Guests came in from around the country, including Alabama and New Jersey.

The event featured great food, drink, live and silent auctions, music by Kate Earl and a special performance by Minnie Driver.

Special thanks to all the sponsors and volunteers who helped to make this event a success.

2005 Golf Tournament

Another Perfect Day!
The 7th Annual Life Rolls On Golf Tournament was held on July 25th at the Malibu Country Club.

Closest-to-the-pin winner, Charlie Christiansen, won a trip for two to Salani Surf Resort in Samoa courtesy of Waterways Travel. Being the generous guy that he is, Charlie is donating the trip back to Life Rolls On to auction off. Check back to www.liferollson.org for details on this upcoming auction.

Although there were no hole-in-ones, Life Rolls On would like to thank Quiksilver Travel for putting up the hole-on-one prize, a trip to Fiji's Nukubati Resort.

Silent and Live Auction

A New Record!
The live auction portion of the event(see Night by the Ocean), raised $47,000 for Life Rolls On. The highlight of the night was the frantic bidding for "A day in the life of Jesse Billauer" - when the gavel came down, the winning bid was $12,000 (thank you Tom & Susan Whitesell)! Supersize Me's Morgan Spurlock donated $10,000 to Life Rolls On for a trip to Tavarua, Fiji - where he announced to his celebrity vegan chef fiance, Alex Jamieson, that their wedding would be taking place on Tavarua. How romantic!

H2$000

Water sales at US Open benefit LRO
Arrowhead Mountain Spring Water donated the proceeds of water sales at the 2005 Honda US Open of Surfing to LRO. Special thanks to Kelly Gold of Lead Dog Marketing, Shannon Kavanaugh of the Ryan Partnership and everyone at Arrowhead for supporting this effort.

SoBe steps up

Andy Irons Takes Honda US Open

Carried on the shoulders of LRO wearing Wolfpack
Andy Irons survived a late Rob Machado charge (Rob is on the Board of Life Rolls On) in the final 10 seconds of competition to take the US Open title. As the three-time world champion has been accustomed to, he was carried up the beach on the shoulders of friend Kala Alexander (left) Kala happened to be wearing his new Life Rolls On tank-top. Congrats Andy. Thanks Kala!

Volunteers Do Time

Dozens of volunteers make big difference
Some signed up months ago, some never signed up (they just magically appeared), but they came! Either way, volunteers came in droves to help put on and support all of the recent LRO events (Dinner, Auction, Golf Tournament, US Open). Christy Leonard led a great team for the NBTO and Golf Tournament, while Bridget Convery directed the volunteer efforts at the US Open. Thank you to all volunteers for making a difference!
